Let me clarify: We were TIED in our 4-Team pool for tournament play and the top two teams advance. Iron Pigs got in with 2-1 record, and the Stars were eliminated with a 1-2 record. So that leaves the T-Rats and Bees TIED at 1-1-1 in our pool for that 2nd spot. The upcoming KISS tune hold the conclusion...
A coin toss? That sucks. The tied teams should be allowed to play a 1 game tie breaker... that f???s up your pitchers and the pitch count rules... but the kids??? skill determine who goes forward.... not Lady Luck (my experience is that she???s a bitch)

Yep, it sucks. Due to our tournament structure, timing and fields available, a tie breaker 3-inning game was not in the mix. They should have at least looked to compare our normal season records or head-to-head in the normal season or runs scored in the season...and as a final, final LAST RESORT do a coin flip. Hopefully, this sort of situation is addressed and corrected for future tournaments.
BTW, the Iron Pigs won it all last night in a great little league game! They beat the Red Wings 3-1

Grand Funk! That one took me on a ride on the Way Back machine. One of my brother's bands used to play that one.

> 'Skulls Holiday History Quiz time! What date did the US officially achieve independence from Britain? If you say July 4th, 1776, that is incorrect! No Google or Bing allowed. Ask around tomorrow at your 4th cookout and see how many people know the correct answer, bet it is few if any :)

One of two things happened with this question;
1) No one read it or if they did no one really cares what I blab about :blink:
2) No one actually knew the answer which just reiterates the fact that the history education in our country was (and probably still is) done with "coloring books" or Disney films from the 1950's. I've never had anyone answer this one when I have asked over the years, and history to some seems boring and useless, but it is greatly important for people to know their actual history. I just happen to be a closet history buff so I look beyond the mostly incorrect text books that float around full of myths.
Ok, off the soap box and on with the answer and you can look like a star (or a nerd) at your big 4th cookout by knowing the answer!
July 4th was the day the US "declared" (see the root word here) independence from Britain but had not obtained it. The Declaration of Independence was actually a declaration of war, maybe sublimely, but it was.
Actual independence took place on September 3rd, 1783 (yes, it was a long drawn out 5+ year war). The Treaty of Paris (where it was signed) was the official separation of the United States and Britain.
So there you go, leave it or take it but tell your kids so they get that one correct on an exam one day :horns:

There's a thread here about this very topic. It was posted when Chris originally opened the band's addition to the music library up for public commentary.
Check it out. Both sides of the argument are there.
