> Ace Frehley - Loser in a Fight

Something reminded me of this so I thought I would re-tell this classic story for any new listeners of HR80s. Back in the early 90???s my brother-in-law's band (Sioux City) was on the verge of getting signed by Atlantic, but they wanted a ???professionally?? produced demo first. So who does the record company call? None other than Ace Frehely.

Ace came down to the burbs of Philly and spent a couple of weeks with the band. My bro-in-law said Ace was a trip, and had this high-pitched laugh. A bit strange for a fairly big dude.

The band played a gig at the old Bonnies Roxx in Jersey, and Ace was of course in attendance. Among other things, a strange thing about Ace was he always carried around a satchel, a man purse if you will, and from time to time would take out some makeup and apply it. I guess Ace always wants to look good for his fans. During a break in the set Ace strolls off to the bathroom, man purse in tow. As Ace is applying his makeup in the mirror, some drunk dude walks in and starts busting on Ace for carrying a purse and putting on makeup. I mean, this dude was really getting on his case. Ace just turned around and popped the guy right in the nose and walked out of the bathroom. He never knew what hit him.

Needless to say Sioux City never made the big time, but their time with Ace Frehely is unforgettable.

Really? This latest version of Foreigner with Kelly Hansen is damn good live.

... and Night Ranger is an amazing live and much heavier.
As far as I'm concerned - even though I never liked them - it's a Foreigner tribute band. Only one original member, who's not even touring with them at the moment.

I've seen Night Ranger. Always loved them. I even supported them in their lean years in the '90s.

True, but IMO they're a hell of a tribute band.
I saw Journey/Night Ranger in August when I was visiting home in ny. NR was damn good live...enjoyed it

Thanks for the tip. I listened to this whole album this afternoon and HOLY CRAP is it great!!! John Norum on guitar and Glenn "F'N" Hughes on vox -- a one, two combo for anyone. As you said, it KILLS!!!
You're welcome Dave.
When I put in the car, it stays for a week.

I forgot to mention, that I thought of this block idea due to the fact that Anthrax's new disc "Worship Music" was changed to included Joey Belladonna on vox, replacing new vocalist Dan Nelson singing, which was completed about 2 years ago, but never saw the light of day (hmmm, I would be interested to hear that version).

BTW, nice change boyz and well worth the wait. IMO, The final product of "Worship Music" with Joey on vox is the best album of the year...so far ;)

You can find about 3 songs with Dan singing on You Tube of the new material and in my opinion he was just plain awful for them. He was trying to be some Nu Metal cookie monster vocalist on them and that just did not fit.

The singer - Jimi Jaimoson went on to front Survivor, and Jeff Klaven played in Krokus.

I definitely agree that Arise should be here. However, the post-Chaos AD material is too nu-metal and the pre-Beneath The Remains material is too death metal.

Yep, that's why I do my "AOTD" and grab 5 songs to hear thoroughout the day (about 1 every 2 hours or so). All the new music is sometimes hard to preview and that's a great way to hear some sample tunes! Then again, sometimes I just like to hear a classic album and one tune isn't enough ;)

I'll throw Arise in my folder.

I agree with the post Chaos A.D. Although I like those albums, they really do not fit the station format.
The latest album that came out in Sept called "Kairos" completely and absolutely kicks ass. There are many back to Chaos era influences although it may still be a bit much to have here.
Here is one of tunes for anyone that wants to check it out.

I like it as well, but who the hell is this Freddie Nelson?

I need to learn more about him. The guy shines on this album.

Looks like Freddie is a friend of Paul's. This may be his big break. Here's what Sleaze Roxx had to say:

Don't worry Yann, John will be back soon. He and Mike Portnoy teamed up on a new project. According to their interview on That Metal Show last week, the album should drop real late this year or early next year. Should be killer. Here is a link with a brief description:
