At that point in his career Richie was considered a shredder and certainly was never thought of as a blues player (although he has gravitated that way as he matured).

But I remember one night, Arthurs Museum had a rare Saturday night off so we went out to their "home" club to see another band. They come on stage, and there's Richie! Seems their guitar player got sick so they asked Richie to fill in just hours before showtime. Since they had no rehearsal they just played covers, and Richie played like he had played with them forever. But at the end of the night the band wanted to do their signature song, so Richie obliged, even though he had never played it before. It was a blues song, and Richie nailed it, even with an improvised solo.

The dude is amazing, but I think every musician of his caliber can play just about any style flawlessly.

> Well, looks like my whole block is enthused about the party I'm throwing Saturday. Another neighbor came over and brought beer last night. That makes two that have done so now. I'm gonna fill my wheelbarrow with ice and beer, and wheel it around by the pool.

Sounds like too much work.

Not really, I got the idea from a neighbor at his party last year, and used it at my Christmas party - works great. It holds a lot more than an ice chest too, and is easier to dump out.
